The MERV rating on a filter is an Efficiency standard like MPG or SEER but for filters. The acronym is Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. What you need to know is the higher the MERV the better the filter. But be careful when selecting filters because HIGH MERV filters if not sized correctly can cause airflow problems.
The acronym stands for: Volatile Organic Compounds, they are gas emissions from certain products inside our homes. New carpet/furniture/paint, cleaning products, etc. emit VOCs. We recommend you have your ducts cleaned and sanitized every 5 years. If you have an air cleaner installed or you use high MERV filters you may not need it at all. When we come out for your bi-annual healthy home checkup, our technician will be sure to check the state of your air ducts.
